[Brief translation]
The Japan Machinery Federation (JMF), which is a nationwide organization of the Japanese machinery and engineering industry, announced the 27th (2006) Energy Conserving Machinery Award in February 5th 2007. JMF has held the annual Award since 1980 in order for the promotion of efficient use of energy in line with the government’s energy-saving promotion policy. The persons, companies or organizations are rewarded by the Awards for their contribution to development and commercialization of superior energy-saving machineries. Chiyoda Corporation, Fuji Oil Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. won the "Award of Director-General, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry" for its "multiple-site low-grade exergy recovery system".

Multiple-site low-grade exergy recovery system - Sharing low-temperature waste heat -
The "Multiple-Site Low-Grade Exergy Recovery System" is composed of three systems;
(1) "Multiple-site energy sharing system"
Enabling each site to share the exhaust heat while maintain its operation flexibility, utilizing the overall factory analysis method called Pinch Technology
(2) "Integrated energy monitoring system"
Analyzing and displaying the optimized operation condition for the sites
(3) "Low grade heat conversion system"
Recovering energy in low-temperature waste heat exhausted from distillation columns and generating energy by utilizing highly-concentrated ammonia water as a working fluid
The system saves an equivalent of 10,700KL of crude oil per year and has the effect of reducing CO2 emissions equivalent of 28,000 tons per year.
The systems are supported by the government and some of the systems are currently moving toward implementation in other industrial complexes within the country.
